It was there that every shameful assumption I had ever made about Muslims changed.
I’ll never forget the fear and awkwardness I felt walking through the Islamabad airport -- everyone there was Muslim. I just knew someone was going to “target” me. Instead, I received warm smiles and welcomes from people who were surviving in a political and religious power struggle that impacted their lives every single day.
Lo and behold, they were human... and like all humans, their hearts were filled with goodness and brokenness.
